Do you know that 64 percent of consumers who are engaged on the Internet prefer promotional contact  via e-mails over social media, according to

There have also been several experiments and reports that show that e-mail marketing still has considerably greater conversion rates than any other type of client communication, when selling things to consumers.

Despite the rise of social media and junk email, email remains the most effective tool to nurture leads and increase client loyalty.

Did you know that at least 99 percent of people check their email every day? That cannot be stated of any other mode of communication.

People who purchase things advertised via email spend 138 percent more than those who do not receive such offers. In fact, email marketing has a 4400 percent ROI (return on investment). That's enormous!

If you think social media converts better, think again: an email's average order value is at least three times more than that of social media.

Simply put, email is the most effective technique to generate internet sales. Let me take you through the journey of setting up your first email marketing campaign and i will try to make this as practical and step by step guide as i can.

What you intend to achieve with each single email campaign should be the overall picture of your email marketing program.

would you want to increase sales with your emails, or do you want to boost email engagement or brand awareness? these are some of the things you can achieve with an email marketing campaign but for the purpose of this article we will just focus on making sales.

So setting up your goals once you've determined the "why" behind your email marketing strategy as in this case making sales. The following are a few examples of simple and easy-to-measure email marketing goals:

  • To increase your open rate and click through rate by 20% in two months.
  • To increase sales by 10% in 2months
  • To increase my email list by 20% in 2months

you can observe that we are being conservative with the numbers just to give room for achieving our goals in record breaking time and then scale up from there.

Before setting up your first email marketing campaign as a beginner you must first have an active list, that means you need to capture leads to grow your list with the right target audience and to do that you have to signup with an optin tool.

I personally have been using convertful for some years now both for my personal projects and for clients, and the great thing about convertful is that they have a free plan that you can start with as a beginner.

Next we are going to register with an email service provider (ESP) that will allows you segment your audience, organize your list, and send email campaigns to your subscribers.

You can also keep track of the results in order to make improvements to future campaigns.

A decent ESP should be able to link with your other marketing tools, allowing you to run everything on autopilot as your lead list grows.

There are many email service providers to pick from, but a more beginner friendly ESP you can rely on is Getresponse

As one of the top email service providers and advanced affiliates favourites, they still have a simple and user friendly interface with good customer service support.

Now you have registered with an Email Service Provider and created and optin with convertful

next we will use an email marketing strategy tool called "Lead Magnet" this is more like providing a digital marterial that will be valuable and captivating to them, this marterail should be compelling enough to persuade your visitors give you their name and active email address.

This can be an ebook with valuable content, so lets head over to this is a Private label rights (PLR) website which helps you save time in creating content by buying rights so that you can modify and in most cases claim ownership of the materials and they have various niches which you can browse from till you find what you are looking for,

so here we grab an ebook that will be relevant for our visitors for instance "5 steps to boost website traffic for free" download this and use it as a lead magnet, you could also add some more valuable content or use it as it is.

Configuring your optin form to include the exit-intent popup is important to enable us reach our goal of increasing our list in record speed. Exit-intent® popups appears at the exact time a user is going to depart from your website.

This popup does not interrupt the user's reading experience and appears only when the user is about to leave since they've most likely read your content and found your site useful, when they are leaving the site is the best time to ask them to subscribe, so a pop up appears on the screen with your lead magnet offer.

Now you have your lead magnet configured in your optin form installed in your website and the next step from here is traffic.

Traffic can be free or paid, free traffic though will require lots of work, and time but the results can be lasting, but there is a website that you can sign up for free trial and get upto 2500 visitors to your website you can check our this website here for targeted ways free traffic,

I have used their services and still do,but if you still want to run paid ads then depending on your budget you can run google ads using search keywords or display ads with the lead magnet and optin form you created earlier. If you would want us to assist you with this part you can click here and send us an email.

Now I always get asked which time is best to create the email marketing campaign, should it be done after getting your traffic or before?

My answer has always and will always be "before you get your traffic" the reason is because you dont want to start on a wrong foot or create a wrong/negative impression, you dont want to leave money on the table.

You want to create your campaign and automate it so that as the traffic begins to trikle in and you are getting optin into your list, your emails are already going out to them with either the lead magnet you promised or some other bonuses you want to give to them and then maybe after 2 days another email goes out to them, just so they dont forget you in a rush.

As you get leads into your list you would have to schedule or automate the email going out to every lead and these emails are called email copy or swipes, some email marketing service providers have templates to follow but from experience it is best to come up with your own or you can creatively modify the email swipes provided by the email service providers

In writing your email copy there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind to avoid your emails ending up in spam folders, the following are email marketing best practices:

  • Make sure that all of your recipients have agreed to receive your emails. Seriously. This point cannot be overstated.
  • Use a suitable IP address to send your email campaign. That is an IP address that has never been used before by someone who has sent spam and has been blacklisted.
  • Send emails from domains that have been validated.
  • Keep your email template code as simple as possible.
  • Ask subscribers to whitelist your emails and add you to their address book.
  • Avoid using "salesy" language (words like "purchase" and "clearance" are spam triggers).
  • Make Your Email Campaigns More Personal.
  • Ensure that your campaign is relevant to each and every subscriber.
  • Ensure that your efforts are consistent with your brand and generate trust.
  • Your timing should be perfect.
  • Make a bold statement with your subject line.
  • Write as though you were a friend, dont be too formal.
  • Every time, inject some humour into your content.
  • make sure your email is mobile-friendly.

If you've been following along from the start, you've learned how to develop your email list to massive proportions, segment your list so that your emails are extremely relevant to each individual subscriber, and send effective emails with a high open rate. You're now ready to automate the process and make your campaigns profitable.

The autoresponder series is undoubtedly the most effective sales technique available to an online marketer. It aids in the successful engagement of your email list, the development of relationships, and the conversion of prospects into purchases.

The best part is that once you've finished it, your work is done, so you can concentrate on other things.

So what then is an autoresponder, exactly?

An autoresponder is a series of emails that are sent automatically to a part of your email list in response to a specified action, such as joining your list, engaging in certain browsing behavior, abandoning carts, downloading a PDF, or purchasing a product.

With the help of your email marketing software like Getresponse, you can build the content of an email autoresponder series in advance and schedule it to send at the proper time.

Below is an example of an email sequence for launching an information product as curled from

"Email 1: Introduction and saying thanks for subscribing.

Email 2: Explain why the specific topic/problem matters. This helps build the demand for your product.

Email 3: Explain what you need to do to solve the specific problem/accomplish a certain goal. This builds credibility, and you start helping people in advance.

Email 4: Explain how exactly to solve the problem in more detail. Transition to the sale and mention you’re launching a new product/program in a few days.

Email 5: Launch your product. Tell your list that your product is live and can be purchased in the next few days. After that, you will close your cart and it won’t be available.

Email 6: Remind your subscribers about the product. Share how many people bought it so far, what other people think about it and how many seats are left.

Email 7: Last day before closing, first email. Tell your subscribers that there are 24 hours left and your product won’t be available after that. Remind them what they’re going to learn in your program and what the benefits are.

Email 8: Last day before closing, second email. Transition more into scarcity and that there are only a few hours left. After that, your product won’t be available.

Email 9: Two hours before closing. This is where you go full scarcity and focus on the change people want to make in their lives. How much do they really want to solve their problems/accomplish their goals?

Email 10: Cart closed. Send an email to explain to users the product is no longer available. Share figures about how many people got into your program. Thank everybody for their support."
